Do you know someone with agitation associated with Alzheimer's dementia, or a carer who's loved one is showing signs of agitated behavior? They may be eligible to participate in the TRIAD Research Study.
An estimated 50 million people worldwide have dementia, with Alzheimer's disease contributing to 60-70% of those cases.1 Patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia are known to have memory problems. Less well known is that some patients with Alzheimer's dementia may also have certain behavioral changes called agitation. These behaviors can be very disturbing for patients and their loved ones. Examples of some easily identified agitated behaviors are:
- Restlessness
- Pacing/aimless wandering
- Screaming
- Tearing things or destroying property
- Shouting
- Hitting self or others
- Throwing things
- Pushing people
- Resistiveness
- Hurting self or others
- Constant unwarranted requests for attention or help
- Kicking
No medications are currently approved to treat agitation associated with Alzheimer's dementia. If your loved one is showing signs of agitated behavior, they may qualify for the TRIAD Research Study. There is no guarantee that you will see benefits from participation in this study, however results from the study could help advance new treatment options for this difficult condition.
